Diarrhea
Diarrhea is an increase in the frequency of bowel movements or an increase in the looseness of stool or both.
Diarrhea generally is divided into two types: acute and chronic. Acute diarrhea lasts for a maximum of a week while chronic diarrhea almost lasts for more than three weeks. The most common cause of acute diarrhea is infection - viral, bacterial, and parasitic. The most common cause of chronic diarrhea is Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Complications of diarrhea include dehydration, electrolyte (mineral) imbalance, and irritation of the anus. |
