Phytochemistry
The active ingredients of
Piper longum are E-Nisobutyl- eicosa-dienamide, E-Z-N-isobutyl-eicosa-trienamide, E-Z-Nisobutyl-ocatadeca-trienamide, guineensine, pipernonaline, pellitorine, piperine, piperanine, and piperlonguminine. The essential oil of
Trigonella foenum-graecum contains n-alkanes, sesquiterpenes, alkanoles and lactones.
Hamamelis virginiana contains Hamamelitannin and the galloylated proanthocyanidins.
Garlic contains allicin (diallyl disulphide oxide), which is produced enzymatically from alliin (S-2-propenyl-L-cysteine. In the essential oil from steam distillation, diallyl disulphide (60%) is found besides diallyl trisulphide (20%), diallyl sulfide, ajoene and minor amounts of other di- and polysulphides. Clove oil (Syzgium aromaticum) is dominated by eugenol (70 to 85%), eugenol acetate (15%) and β-caryophyllene (5 to 12%), which together make up 99% of the oil and about 2% of the triterpene oleanolic acid. The principle constituents of
Aloe vera are anthraquinones (aloe-emodin and aloin A/barbalin), cinnamoyl, pcoumaroyl, feruloyl, caffeoyl aloesin, aloemannan, acemannan, verectin, elgonica dimer A and bisbenzopyran.
The principle ingredient of
Curcuma longa are curcumin, curcuminoids (demethoxycurcumin, bisdemethoxycurcumin), and ar-turmerone.
Triticum sativum contains significant amounts of iron, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, copper and zinc; iodine and cobalt are present in trace amounts. Wheat germ is a good source of thiamin and nicotinic acid, a rich source of tocopherols with high vitamin-E potency and also contains small quantities of ergosterol and dihydroergosterol.
Clinical Pharmacology
Curcuma longa has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-oxidant properties.
Aloe vera has anti-histaminic, wound healing and immunostimulant properties.
Trigonella foenum relieves boils and abscesses.
Triticum sativum germ protects the skin from scavenging free-radicals, prevents premature aging and reduces UV rays induced damage. It helps in proper drainage of secretions from the sebaceous and other glands of the skin and thereby helps in preventing black heads. It also prevents ultraviolet damage.
Hamamelis virginiana possesses anti-inflammatory, anesthetic and astringent properties. The anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anaesthetic and astringent properties of Akpre helps both in prevention and treatment of first and second degree acne vulgaris.
