Phytochemistry
Tea tree oil (Melaleuca leucadendron) besides cineole, the oil contains a-terpineol and its esters, l -a-pinene, l -limonene, dipentene, sesquiterpenes, azulene, sesquiterpene alcohols, valeraldehyde and benzaldehyde. The essential oil of Trigonella foenum-graecum contains n-alkanes, sesquiterpenes, alkanoles and lactones. The active ingredients of Glycyrrhiza glabra are Kanzonol, glabridin, hispaglabridin (A & B), omethylglabridin, hydroxy-o-methylglabridin, prenylphaseollin isoflavan, and licoagrosides (A & B).
The major ingredients of Azadirachta indica are tetranortriterpenes. Citrus limon contains sugars, polysaccharides, organic acids, lipids, myo-inositol, carotenoids, vitamins, minerals, flavonoids, limonoids (limonin and nomilin), volatile oil, alpha-terpinene, alpha-pinene, citral, coumarins, mucilage, pectins and bioflavonoids (eriocitrin and hesperidan).
The principle ingredients of Cucumis sativa are cucumerin, acucumerin B, vitexin, isovitexin, orientin, isoorientin, p-coumaric acid30, and cucurbitacin. Per 100 g, the Daucus carota is reported to contain 86.0 g H2O, 0.9 g protein, 0.1 g fat, 10.7 g carbohydrate, 1.2 g fiber, 1.1 g ash, 80 mg Ca, 30 mg P, 1.5 mg Fe, 2,000-4,300 IU Vit. A, 60 IU Vit. B1, 3 mg niacin, and 3 mg ascorbic acid.
Clinical Pharmacology
Melaleuca leucadendron has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-septic and anti-dandruff properties. It is an effective antibacterial and antifungal agent.
Rosemarinus officinalis is useful in treating dandruff and other scalp infections. It also has astringent and cooling properties. It also promotes hair growth.
Aloe vera has excellent wound healing activity.
Indications
Dandruff (pityriasis simplex) and hair loss.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.
Adverse Effects
None.
Special Precautions
Avoid contact with eyes.
Dosage
Take some amount of cleanser on your palm and gently massage on wet hair and scalp. Leave it for 5 minutes and then wash it off with normal water. If required repeat the process.
